Pallet measurement
A pallet dimensioner is a system that automatically measures the length, width and height of a pallet to calculate its volume. When it also weighs the load and captures its barcode or image it is called a DWS system (Dimensioning, Weighing, Scanning). It replaces manual measurement with a tape measure, which is slow, hard to repeat and one of the main sources of error in freight billing.
With static measurement the pallet pauses briefly in the measuring station, which allows maximum accuracy at a far lower installation cost. With dynamic measurement the pallet is measured while moving on a conveyor or forklift. PalletVision works statically with a cycle under 2 seconds, which in practice does not create a bottleneck in a dispatch area.
Euro pallets (1200×800), US pallets (1200×1000), half pallets, cages, drums, loose parcels and custom configurations. Computer vision adapts to irregular loads, overhangs, transparent film and black shrink wrap, materials that typically cause errors in systems based on a single laser sensor.
